We are excited to bring the We Can! program to South Lake Tahoe area students and families each spring. All students from the four elementary schools participate in We Can! which stands for Ways to Enhance Children’s Activity and Nutrition.
During the We Can! Program, there are weekly challenges that focus on fitness and nutrition goals. We encourage you to try these goals as a family! The PE Teachers will remind students of these goals and the cafeteria will be serving fresh, in-season produce. Try adding the colorful fruits and vegetables to your child’s lunch or serving them at dinner.
We Can! Challenge
Week 1 Challenge
Drink Water. Drink at least 2 bottles of water each day.
To celebrate "Rethink Your Drink" Day on May 8th and throughout the following week, challenge students to stay hydrated with water and ditch sugary alternatives, like soda and juice.
Week 2 Challenge
Avoid screen time. Instead, spend time outside or read a book.
This week, the US Forest Service will provide activities for students to participate in during recess.
Week 3 Challenge
Try a new food. Whole foods are the best! Try nuts, a new veggie, fruit or a food you don’t normally eat.
This week for Harvest of the Month, the cafeteria will be serving cucumbers for all students to try during lunch.
Week 4 Challenge
Walk or bike to school. Get exercise and support the Tahoe Bike Challenge!
Join the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency + Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition and ride your bike to school on June 5, 6 or 7th. Prizes will be given out to students who ride their bike to school.
