Funding from Barton Foundation Available to Address Mental Health

South Lake Tahoe, CA – The Barton Foundation has opened a new community grant cycle for programs and events that address mental health.

Every year, Barton Health provides funds for programs and organizations that will positively impact the health of the South Lake Tahoe community, particularly those that benefit underserved populations. In South Lake Tahoe’s 2015 Community Health Needs Assessment, mental health issues were identified as one of the most pressing health needs.

In this grant cycle, the Barton Foundation will award up to $14,500 in grants to community projects focused on building capacity through training, informational products, or events that increase mental health awareness, reduce stigma, and connect patients and their families to programs and services. Priority will be given to “one time” investments, such as special projects or events. Grants will not be awarded for overhead or on-going services.

Grant proposals will be accepted until November 30, 2015. They will be reviewed by the Community Health Advisory Committee and grant recipients will be notified no later than January 30.

This funding is available for non-profit organizations and social service agencies.  Additional grant criteria and the application are available online at bartonhealth.org/grants, or contact Kindle Craig, Barton Health’s director of Strategy and Development, at 530-543-5612.

The Community Health Advisory Committee is comprised community leaders, elected officials, clinicians, Barton Health staff, and private and non-profit stakeholders. They act as an advisory committee to Barton Health’s Board of Directors regarding pertinent community health issues facing the community, including the prioritization of the local Community Health Needs Assessment.
