Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade - Spring 2019

Barton Earns New Recognition for Quality and Safety of Care, Leads Region in Community Health

(South Lake Tahoe, CA) – Barton Health has earned state-wide recognition for its patient safety and quality of care. Two new accolades add to Barton’s state-wide industry recognition; a Four-star Overall Rating from Hospital Compare, and an ‘A’ grade for patient safety this spring from the Leapfrog Group.

The Four-star Overall Rating from Hospital Compare demonstrates data that Barton Health leads the region in patient safety and quality of care. Hospital Compare is a consumer-oriented website that lists information on how well hospitals provide care to patients. In addition to its overall rating, Hospital Compare ranks Barton Memorial Hospital in the top 30 percent of hospitals across the nation and in the top 12 percent of California hospitals for patient experience.

The ‘A’ from the Leapfrog Group’s spring 2019 Hospital Safety Grade Designations recognizes Barton’s efforts in protecting patients from harm and providing safer health care. This is the fifth ‘A’ grade Barton has received from the Leapfrog Group since 2016. Leapfrog Safety Grades are issued biannually, assigning an ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ or ‘F’ grade to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care.

“We are proud to be a leader in community health and provide a high level of quality care to our patients,” said Dr. Clint Purvance, Barton Health President and CEO. “As an independent, nonprofit health care system, patient safety is our top priority and Barton’s high scores reinforce our team’s work to provide consistently exceptional care.”
