Expecting moms will labor, deliver and recover in their own private birthing suite decorated with rocking chairs, flat screen televisions, refrigerators, and feature wireless internet access and private showers. Each room has a fold-out bed so family members can comfortably spend the night.

The atmosphere at The Family Birthing Center is matched only by the expert level of care you receive. The Family Birthing Center maintains a care team consisting of board-certified obstetricians, pediatric hospitalists, pediatricians, and nursing staff that are committed to supporting and empowering expecting moms and their families.

Barton's board-certified OB/GYN physicians are trained in vaginal birth after a cesarean, or VBAC, and the Barton Family Birthing Center offers this option in a medical environment for mothers who have previously had a baby via a C-section delivery.

Blue Distinction Center - Maternity LogoBarton Memorial Hospital's Family Birthing Center is a Blue Distinction® Center for Maternity Care. Blue Distinction Centers are nationally designated hospitals that show expertise in delivering improved patient safety and better health outcomes.

Labor & Delivery During COVID-19

Barton Health continues to provide compassionate care that puts mothers and babies first. Our team of labor and delivery experts believe families need to be together, especially in those precious first moments. Barton honors the needs of the mother and child while upholding everyone's health and safety.

Support Person by Your Side

Barton allows one support person and one doula or midwife to join the mother in her private room.

Skin-to-Skin Contact

If the mother is COVID-positive, the mother is provided with a face mask and her upper body is cleansed with a special soap so the newborn baby can be placed on her for skin-to-skin contact, bonding, and the first attempt at breastfeeding together.

Keeping Mothers and Their Babies Together

Even if the mother is COVID-positive, she is not separated from her baby. Barton invests in training and equipment for newborn care to keep babies close and avoid medical circumstances that would require them being sent to a neonatal intensive care facility.

Breastfeeding Support

Besides enabling skin-to-skin contact, Barton has skilled nursing staff who are certified lactation consultants.
