Cancer Support Services

Our Cancer Support Services are devoted to helping participants reach an improved state of wellness through guided exercise, yoga and nutrition. Our staff of physical therapists, certified instructors and registered dietitians are dedicated to improving the overall wellness of program participants.

Behavioral Health

A cancer diagnosis is likely to open the flood gates to a wide range of emotions, for both the patient and loved ones. Additionally, stress can sometimes feel insurmountable during the diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship of cancer.

Barton Health offers cancer patients consultations with a Licensed Clinical Social Worker to help with emotional and behavioral health needs.

To schedule a consultation or for more information, please call Barton Oncology at 530.539.6620.

Exercise for Energy

Exercise for Energy is specially designed to assist in improving quality of life during and after cancer treatments. Classes are led by Barton physical therapists and incorporate strengthening, stretching, breathing, balance, cardio, and wellness education. Exercise has been shown to help cancer patients:

  • Regain physical function
  • Diminish pain, fatigue and nausea
  • Improve:
    • Tolerance to chemotherapy
    • Posture and body mechanics
    • Breathing and oxygenation of tissues
    • Digestion
    • Bone strength
    • Muscular strength
    • Flexibility
    • Endurance
    • Balance

For additional information on class times, please call Barton Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine at 530.543.5896.

Yoga, Relaxation & Meditation

Complimentary yoga classes are offered to cancer patients and recovering patients as part of Barton’s Cancer Wellness Program. Yoga can create a sense of well-being, improve the quality of life, provide relaxation, and reduce stress for some patients with cancer. Yoga has been shown to relieve some symptoms associated with cancer, however, yoga does not slow the growth or spread of cancer.

Yoga, as an addition to a cancer treatment plan, has the potential to be pleasant and productive, but should not replace the care and treatment provided by your cancer care team.

For information, please call Barton Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine at 530.543.5896.

Healthy Eating

A healthy, balanced diet may be challenging during cancer treatment, but it is important for supporting your body’s needs during this time. Achieving and maintaining a good nutritional status can:

  • Increase the likelihood of completing prescribed treatments
  • Reduce treatment recovery time
  • Improve health-related quality of life
  • Reduce risk of developing other diseases, such as heart disease or diabetes
  • Possibly reduce risk for recurrence and new primary cancers
  • Possibly improve prognosis and overall survival rates

Barton Health offers participants consultations with Registered Dietitians (with physician referral), as well as free nutrition services which offer sound nutritional advice, cooking tips and recipes.

To schedule a consultation or for more information, please call Barton Nutrition at 530.543.5823.
